Earlier this year I made a gift for my son's teacher who had lost her beloved pug. She showed it off and another teacher was moved to contact me about making her son a sculpture of his dogs for Christmas. An English Setter and a Beagle were the subjects...and here are the pics....

Due to me being sick from my pregnancy...this order ended up being finished right at the end of the line...December 23rd!! I met her and her husband for delivery that night. They were so very excited and pleased with the sculpture. Just seeing their faces made all the hard work I put into it worth it! Then the next day I got a text of her son holding the sculpture and smiling from ear to ear! This is what she had to say,

"Oh my gosh! He loves it so much! He just sat there & looked at it all around and checking it out from every angle. He also agrees that it looks just like his boys! Thank you so much! You are so incredibly talented!"

So thank you Rhonda! It was such a joy working with you!! I am glad that he loved it! I am sure to be seeing you around the school! Thanks again and Merry Christmas! :-)

Custom Black Bears

A sweet wonderful woman came to me via my online Etsy store asking about my black bears. Her grandparents LOVED black bears and she wanted to have some custom bears made that fit the grandparents personalities. We had the Grandfather bear who was a photographer and who loved is John Wayne style holster and pistol as well as his Tilley hat. Then there was the grandfather bear with the great granddaughter up on his shoulders coming from the garden with tomatoes and the little one eating one. Then we had the grandmother bear with a large straw hat and a Longaberger Basket with her favorite veggies from the garden...tomatoes and okra. Then last...we had the grandmother bear with the great granddaughter bear as they come with the basket of tomatoes and okra.

It was such a wonderfully creative idea to make these bears into persona of real people!!

I ran really late with the order due to my pregnancy related sickness, but the bears were shipped to Harvest, AL just in time for Christmas. Thank you SOOOO much Tori for your patience with me with my being sick. It was such a joy working with you! I hope that your grandparents loved them! You have such a sweet family and the love that you have for them is awesome!! Thank you for everything! Stay in touch and Merry Christmas!

This was one special order! It come from a wonderful woman who I am blessed to have been able to cross paths with in this life!! She is one of those people who you just feel comfortable with and be honest with. She is a kind caring soul who shared many stories of her life with me. She was a joy to get to know. And I know that we will continue to be friends!

She found me via my online Artfire store and that is where it all started. She wanted a sculpture of her "babies". The dogs went rather smoothly...but the cat...oh my! I am NOT good at cats and so it took a couple of times before we got little Allie to look like Allie!

She was very pleased with the sculpture and this is what she had to say,

"Oh my goodness, Arlissa!!!! my babies arrived safely and are cuter than i imagined from the photos. i am so very very happy with them. you truly did a fabulous job! their new home is front and center in my curio cabinet...along with my treasures from europe and my mom! so needless to say, they are very special. i couldn't wait to email you to tell you THANK YOU so very much! thank you thank you thank you a million times. The horse, flower and dragonfly

This order come from a past customer of mine via my online Etsy store. She is such a sweet wonderful person whom I have had the blessed oppurtunity to not only work with, but get to know.

She had ordered a sculpture of her own horse from me earlier this year. Now she was wanting something special for her mother and father. Her father loved his horse Dudley...so that was only fitting. And her mother loved Chrysanthemum flowers and dragonflies....and so hers come to life as well!

They both turned out so great and they loved the gifts. Thank you Jennifer for coming back to honor me with making these special gifts. I am glad they loved them and I am looking forward to the next ones!! :-) Thanks girl!

I had posted the story about Elliott under the post named "A Special Gift" on April 11, 2011. If you haven't read that post....you need to go back and read the incredible story of this amazing dog!

But his mommy, Laura, found me on Etsy and ordered two sculpts of him. One for her and one for another person whom the dog was very special to. They each picked a pose and then the process began!

It really didn't take me that long to sculpt either of these....obviously Elliott is not only a miracle dog...but he is also very laid back!

This is what Laura had to say about them....

"Wow, I'm really impressed. You do wonderful work. It doesn't just look like him; it really captures his personality. That is definitely Elliott!! You are amazing! I can't wait to see them in person!"

Feeling better and getting back to work! YEA! I had to get started on the list of back-up orders I have. These customers have been so kind and understanding that I cant thank them enough. So thank you so very much!

Okay....so I did actually get an order done! This one was for a wonderful woman named Jenny. She asked me to sculpt her horse, Smokey, on his picket line. She had found me and made her order via Etsy. So after waiting...I finally got him done and I think he turned out great! But don't take it from me....this is what she had to say....

"Wow he looks amazing and i couldn't ask for anything more!"

So Smokey made his way to Sterling Heights, MI to be forever displayed. Thank you Jenny for being so patient with me! I look forward to the other orders! :-)

Health update

Hello!

Well, I wanted to update everyone and let them know that I am starting back slowly to good health. I have had a really rough time this year stemming from last year with my health. But I am thankful for finding a doctor who actually took the time to listen and actually find out the causes of my problems. So thank you Dr. Radar!

I am still having some down days....but slowly getting back to a normal life.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, kind words, emails, and gifts! I have a wonderful circle of support around me and I feel so very blessed!

Away for a while

I have had some rather serious heath issues that have landed me in the hospital on and off for the past couple of months. I am not able to do my work...as bad as I hate it. I just don't have the physical energy.

Nancy's Dogs

My mother asked me to make her dear friend, Nancy, a sculpture of her dogs for Christmas last year....but I could not do it due to being booked up. So I told her I would do it for Mother's day. I have been having a lot of health issues and not feeling up to par....but I got it done...before Mother's Day.

I dropped it off at my mother's and we were sitting on the front porch when Nancy just happen to drop by to see my mother. So my mom let her go ahead and have it early. She opened the box and just squealed so loudly! She just laughed and laughed with joy. Being able to actually be there in front of someone when they see my sculpture for the first time...gives me the most absolute pleasure in my heart! It never gets old!

Spirit

This was an international order that I received via Etsy. The sculpture was to be a gift for the customer's mother for her birthday. The beautiful dog Spirit, an Australian Shepherd, had passed away some time before she had contacted me. Her mother loved the dog very much and was having a hard time due to her other dogs getting older and starting to have problems.

So I worked very closely with her to ensure all the details were right. I even suggested adding a slipper due to the fact that the dog had been notorious for taking them and hiding them! And after it was all said and done....this is what she had to say....

"I wanted to express my awe at how much work you got done in ONE DAY, and congratulate you on getting such an authentic looking Aussie! She looks GORGEOUS!! Mum loved it! Thanks for making the birthday present I wanted to give a reality!"

This order was to be shipped out by April 15th. But due to serious health issues and being hospitalized....I ended up being rather late. Spirit finally made her journey to Victoria in Australia now in May. I was upset that I couldn't make the deadline and get it to her before her mother's birthday. But she was very kind and understanding. So thank you Kirsty! I really appreciate your patience and understanding!

Eagle Bust

This order come from a returning customer on Etsy. She was wanting an eagle for her son. It was suppose to be for his birthday, but because of my health problems...I did not get it out in time. Other than being really late....I think that the eagle turned out really great. The base was a little tricky to find one to fit. But after cutting and staining this custom base...I think it looked very regal!

One month after it was due....this eagle made it's journey to the Bronx in New York. She said her son loved it very much and that now her daughter is wanting a sculpture as well!

Thank you Kathy for your understanding and patience with me during all of my health issues as well as your kind words. I greatly appreciate it! Look forward to doing something for your daughter when I get to feeling better!

A special gift

Wow....what a story to tell.
I was contacted by this sweet woman, Laura, via Etsy asking about having her dog Elliott sculpted. She told me the story of him and it just broke my heart. They had been looking for a dog for awhile and found one they really liked, but it didn't work out. Then Elliott come up for adoption. They went to see him with no intentions of bringing him home...but they fell in love and he did go home with them. Plus, it was like it was meant to be to find out his birthday was the same as Laura's! She talked about how great of a dog he was and how much he had touched her, especially since she was totally a cat person. Then right before his 5th birthday...they found a mass under his pelvis...it was adenocarcinoma...a type of cancer. He's been through three chemotherapy drugs and a surgery, but he continued to get worse. The side-effects from the chemo have caused internal bleeding requiring multiple transfusions, vomiting and a complete loss of appetite. Then her last sentence spoke volumes and just broke my heart....."We're running out of options and I'm afraid we're going to lose him soon. " I knew I wanted to do something for her....I just had to. She was dealing with him being so sick that she decided to put off the sculpture....but I wanted to do something. So I decided to make her a key chain of Elliott. That way...in case something happened before she could order a sculpt....she would have something. It wasn't much and didn't take me long to do....but I think it turned out well.

I shipped it away to her hoping that it would get there before anything was to happen, as things sounded very grim. It arrived in Bellingham, WA and this is what she had to say about it....

"I have the keychain you sent hanging from the rearview mirror in my car so I can keep an eye on Ell wherever I go. I smile whenever I look at it. I can't thank you enough."

This is why I love what I do. This is what I was made to do. Even if it is something so simple or something completely complex....if I can bring just a smile to someone's day from something that I have made....then I am happy. I can't change the world or stop wars....but I can help those in need....with a bit of creativity.

**UPDATE**8/3/11
GREAT NEWS!!Elliott is doing MUCH better! Laura said the docs were calling him the miracle dog. They have changed his drugs to where he isn't having the bad side effects AND it seems to be working! The tumor has shrunk so much that they can't even feel it on him any more! He has gained back his appetite and weight and is even out running and taking hikes with Laura! I am sooooo thrilled to hear this! And I know she is just as thrilled....obviously! :-) Keep up the good work Elliott! We are thinking of you!

Here is yet another Etsy order ( I have had a lot of them recently!) This person wanted her mom's dog, Biscuit, to be sculpted. It was important to make sure and get all the markings. When finished...she was very pleased and had this to say....

"Wow Arlissa, the figurine looks amazing! It is really neat to see how it starts from a ball of clay and transforms into a dog, you really are a talented artist :) Wanted to let you know that words can not describe how much my mom LOVED the Biscuit figurine. This order come from one of the new sites I have started selling on which is www.craftisart.com. She wanted me to make a sculpt of her very loved "Sookie" a pit bull. It was strange at the timing as my cousin had just got mauled by a Pit Bull the day before this customer contacted me. She and I talked about the breed and hearing the story of how sweet dear Sookie was...reminded me that not all Pit Bulls are aggressive. And being the stupid person I am...I had just looked at the name without really reading it and for quite some time, kept calling her dog "SNOOKIE", like from the Jersey Shore. I felt really stupid when I asked if she did indeed name her from the girl on the show or elsewhere! Hehe!
But SOOKIE come together quite nicely. I hadnt been feeling good and run a little behind in finishing....but all in all I think she turned out really well!

What a beautiful dog! This order come to me from Etsy. And I could tell by the pics that was sent of Blackie...that she was a VERY loved dog! What stood out the most to me about Blackie was her eyes...they were very expressive. So when I sculpted her, I wanted to try to duplicate that. And I obviously did a decent job...here is what the customer had to say:

Blackie made the long trip from here to Los Angeles, California. Blackie's mommy, Susie, showed the real Blackie the sculpt. She was apprehensive at first I was told...but ended up approving! WHEW! I am so glad! :-) Thanks Susie! Can't wait to start the others!

This order come via my website by a woman who lives internationally. She has a very handsome Golden Retriever named Basil. I had never seen a white colored Golden before. He is just adorable! Most of my sculptures are around 6 inches...but she wanted a larger sculpture. So the sculpt itself ended up being 14 inches long and 13 inches wide! A large sculpt indeed!

Okay...so my frogs have always been a HUGE hit and I love to make them. Well, this order came from Etsy where the customer didn't know exactly what color she wanted the frog. Well, I have done several different colored ones...but never did a Red-Eyed Tree Frog. I have always wanted to...but had never done it. So I suggested, she agreed, and here is the final product....

He turned out so cool! I hated to see him leave! I may have to end up making myself one! hehe! But this little guy is headed to Bronx, NY as a gift for the customer's daughter. Thank you Kathy! This was so much fun and I hope your daughter loves him!

But when I do get to meet someone in person...it totally makes my day. I love watching their faces as I unveil the sculpture. Wedding Cake Toppers

The person who ordered these, is a returning customer. She is a wedding planner. She sent me a pic of an idea she had for cake toppers. Because of her location...these were perfect! Great idea for a couple who's name and date would go into the heart. There were two different ones...one with just the stump and flowers and the other one with an added White-tail deer.

So now these are being sold in Hilham, TN by Ms. Iris. Thank you Iris! These were a lot of fun to make and I hope that we sell more of them!

Charlie the Jumping Show Horse

This was a very long process in making this order. I have never made one with such complexity. But the results were outstanding! I have always loved horses all my life. I used to draw them non-stop. One day someone told me that I would never make a living from drawing horses....and you know what? They were right! So I will sculpt them! hehehe!

I had never heard of a Rhodesian Ridgeback before Fenster. What a BEAUTIFUL dog! He was just amazing. I was hoping that I could capture his proud definitive stature in the sculpt...and I think that I did....meet Fenster....

The sad story of Macy

This amazing woman Vikki contacted me about info on a sculpture of her dog Macy that had just passed away. Not knowing the whole story...I wrote her back with all the info and left it at that. Usually at that point my they either commit or don't. But she wrote me back and explained the she couldn't because the grief was just too hard to bear. I felt her pain through the email...it was so strong. So I reached out to her and spoke to her about her grief. Come to find out her little Macy which was a Minature Pincher and Chihuahua mix had been viciously attacked and killed. She was just devastated. She had been blessed with Macy for eight years....that was her baby...her life. I felt so strongly for her...I wanted to do something for her. It wasn't much...but I hoped that it would help in some way. I made her a hand painted pendant that could be used on a necklace or on a key chain. Here are the pics...

So to my dear new friend Vikki in Newport Beach, CA....keep your head up...because she is looking down on you! You are special and I am glad that our paths crossed!

Oh...dear Tasha! I was contacted by a woman who wanted a sculpture of her sister-in-law's dog who had recently passed away after 17 years. The poor things brought tears to my eyes. But even in her condition...you could still see in her eyes the joy and love she had.

Okay...so for those who know me and my family....you KNOW my son LOVES pugs! So when I was contacted to make a pug sculpture...I knew my son would flip! And he did! He was so excited! He kept asking me EVERYDAY if he could have it! (he's 5 by the way!) SO he was little disappointed when I had to ship it off. But the best was when he said, "Mommy, you did a really good job on that pug...it looked REAL! I bet they will love it!" Awwww....he's sooo sweet!

Well, I had taken all the orders for the season when I was contacted on Etsy about doing 2 custom dog sculptures. She was okay with not having them for Christmas, as she knew it was late for orders. So I scheduled her for the first of the year. But after finishing my "last" sculpt....I wanted to try and make them for her before Christmas. She was very grateful and excited! So here they are....

This sculpture was of a beautiful Cockier Spaniel named Dusty. I really enjoyed making this sculpture and working with the person that ordered. This was a Christmas gift that arrived just on time on Christmas Eve!

Okay, so this was one of my favorite sculpts that I made and it was also the last order of the season. This person contacted me and knew that before Christmas would be a long shot...and that was okay. As long as I could get it to her within the week after Christmas. But things went well with my other sculpts and I worked extra hard to make sure that she could get this in time to give to her friend for Christmas! When I sent her the final pics her words back to me were...

"OMG It looks amazing! I'm tearing up. Thank you sooooo much! She will LOVE it! She's beautiful! I can't wait to get it in the mail. From now on, if I need any more dog sculptures, you're the one to go to :) Thanks times a million!"

That...was the highlight of my Christmas season! So on with the pics...

Just when I thought I was done taking orders...I forgot about my shops I have open online...especially Etsy! And so out of NO WHERE I get THREE pin orders within days of each other! Talk about crazy! But I got them done (thank goodness they don't take too long) and got them out the door!

So the most popular...the Cardinal! Here is the orders and where they went:

3 figure sculptures

This was a challenging order for me as the customer wanted 3 figures that looked all the same. With me not using any molds in any of my creations...this was very hard. Two of them looked alike, while one was a bit different.

But all in all...the customer loved the pieces and they headed their way to Cowpens, SC. Thanks Carolyn!

Dragon

Okay...so I thought I would share with you pics of my dragon. He is the biggest dragon I have ever made. He started off as a puppy laying on his back...but as I kept sculpting the body of this dog...the more it look like a dragon. Yeah...I know...sounds weird. So anyways...I just went with it. It took me over six weeks to finish as I started him right before I got sick. So here are some pics....

Horse Ornament

Okay...so I say that I will make any pet ornament...right? Well, this was a first. Now, I absolutely love horses...always have since I was a little girl. But what is funny...is that I haven't made but two in my sculpting career. And they were unicorns. So I was excited when asked if I could do a horse ornament. It ended up being much more work than I had planned, as I am a perfectionist and I wanted it to be just as detailed as a regular size sculpt. But it was worth it and I think she turned out great. Okay...so today is my birthday. I have been dreading this day for over 6 months now. I am now 30! I don't know WHY I have dreaded this so bad. I just hate leaving my twenties! But it's not like I was going to stop it! So here I am, now 30, and I might as well embrace it right? yea. Can you hear the excitement? Hehehe!

Well, in honor of my birthday...I decided to be busy. Well, to keep my mind off it! And so I have been working the last couple of weeks on my inventory for my store in Pigeon Forge. Soooo...here is some pics of the new stuff that I just delivered....

So that should hold...for a while! :-) Well...off to make more stuff! Hope my feeble 30 year old bones hold up! Hehehe!

Halloween

Well, I am finally back...kind of. I ended up going back to the hospital for a second time...and not really anything was done. I am feeling somewhat better...but I still have days of just absolute fatigue and pain. But it seems I am having more good days than bad. So that is a good thing.

And my favorite holiday came! Halloween! I love Halloween! It is the only day I can dress up and act like a goof and it's normal! Now I don't go spend a ton of money on costumes or anything like that...I just paint my face. I get TONS of compliments and usually scare the crap out of a lot of people. But I totally love it. So wanna see what I did THIS year? Here are some pics...

Pretty cool huh? Took me a little over two hours to paint my face. Some may think that is silly or a waste of time...but I say NO WAY! I love driving down the road and looking over and seeing the people beside me staring at me in disbelief or people pointing at me...it is awesome! I even had one guy ask me where I bought my mask....and it was obviously dark and he couldn't see very well! But it was tons of fun. And for those who think it is silly... I just say...well, can YOU do that? :-)

So enough about me...what about my little boy...isn't that what Halloween is for? The kids? Well, my little man is not typical...wonder why! And he LOVES pugs for some strange reason. Seriously...he has three stuffed animal pugs that he carries around. So he wanted to be a pug. Well, they don't make pug costumes and he didn't want to be ANYTHING else...so I had to make him a costume. Now I am good at sculpting and at painting...but I am NOT the best seamstress. BUT...that being said...I think I did pretty darn good. Is it perfect? By no means...but he loved it and everyone else did as well. He even won a costume contest! So here is my little man in his pug costume....

So there you have it...us at Halloween. I hope that everyone had a great Halloween. But now...it is time for me to get back to work and get ready for the Christmas rush. Because now that Halloween is over...it is going to come fast! So I am off to work!

Sick

Hello everyone. It has been a while. So very sorry. I have been sick. I have spent the last week in the hospital...and really not feeling any better. They said that I had some virus attack the lining of my brain. Then if that wasn't bad enough...they give me a med that counter acted with a med I was already taking, which give me an allergic reaction. I seriously about died. It was horrible. I am back at home now...but still not feeling 100%. But I just wanted to let everyone know where I have been.

So hopefully I will get to feeling better soon...and post up some new stuff.

Sold Out!

Wow! Pigeon Forge is keeping me busy! My last inventory of products....SOLD OUT! So I had to supply with more. So in a weeks time...I was sculpting my fingers off! So here is a pic of my last shipment. Not much...as I am making more. But I can't work fast enough as several things have already sold in less than a week! So I guess I should quite typing...and get to sculpting! :-) So I'm off!

Another LONG while!

Okay...so I said I was going to try to stay on top of the blog...but I gotta tell you...WHEW! It is hard! Trying to do everything! Its a LOT. But I have been working and I have some pics to update with! Here we go....

First up...the toucans. I made a mini series of these cute little guys. Don't really know where exactly they came from...I just one and then it continued. I really enjoyed making them and may even make more on down the road. But I just loved them! They each have their own personality. I hope that all three are enjoying their new home with the collector in Dripping Springs, TX.

My next project was a realistic but still whimsical looking black bear. My whimsical bears in the store in Pigeon Forge really go over well...so I thought about making one a bit more realistic. He turned out good. I just wish that I had just went ahead and made him totally realistic, rather than in between. But it didn't seem to bother someone. Within 2 days of being on the shelf in Pigeon Forge...he was bought and headed to a new home!

Ahhaa..my eagle. This was a gift for my Dad. We are Cherokee Indian and my Dad's totem is the eagle. So it is very special to him. So I wanted to make him a special sculpture. This of course was not the finished picture. I didn't take a pic of the final product as I was so excited for him to get it. He was very pleased with it. I hope that you like it Dad and I love you!
I did this special painting for a very sweet woman, Sammie, in South Carolina. She LOVES lighthouses. She had asked if I would paint her something on her glass...but I think she was totally surprised with the outcome! She loved it and it really looked awesome! The pic doesn't do it justice at all! Enjoy Sammie!

This is a small scare Hyacinth Macaw. Most of my parrots are much larger than this...but I wanted to make a smaller one. I didn't skip on the detail on this one. And he was just sold on Ebay and is now off to his new home!

Meet "Ade", an adorable little fairy sculpt that I had made several months back and just now finished. For such a small scale...she had a lot of detail. After an auction on Ebay...she is now residing in Carver, MN.

I TOTALLY loved this little guy! He was soooo adorable! I just had in my head one day to do a cute whimsical mushroom...and then he came out! EVERYONE loved him! And after a bidding war on Ebay...he now is living in Northridge, CA.

Meet "Faylinn". She is a special little sculpt. I had made her months before as I had done with the other fairy and just sat her aside. I wanted to make her really special. So one day I come across a beautiful Painted Lady butterfly who had meet its doom. I hated to see such a beautiful creature wasted like that. Then it hit me! I used the wings from the butterfly and put them on Faylinn. They matched her perfectly! I put a protective coating over them so they wouldn't break or tatter...added some little details...and POOF...there was Faylinn! What a little darling!
One of my largest sculpts in quite a while....Otie. A life-sized French Bulldog for my cousin, Linda. She adores her little Otie so much and asked me to make his likeness from clay. After a few mishaps...he finally came around! She was thrilled! I hope he and his real self get along well! Thanks Linda! Enjoy! :-)So that is it for now! It has been a while...

Okay...so it has been some time since my last post. I have been doing a lot. I have had customs and we just had a holiday...Mother's Day. So I have been booked up.
It is still hard to try to manage everything....work, being a wife and mother, friends and family, and my house chores. (I AM a housewife you know!) :-) So it has been stressful as well. I am still trying to get into a routine since coming back to Knoxville...so I feel like I am just bounced from one thing to the next! But I will get it together eventually!

Jamaica

(singing loudly and badly....)
" Aruba.. Jamaica.. oooooo I wanna take you to Burmuda.. Bahama...come on pretty momma...Key Largo...." OH hello! Just reeling from my trip! :-) We had SUCH a blast! I can't believe it is already over! Gee time flies! But sadly it is over and I am back in Tennessee where it is wet and cold. A far cry from sunny skies, warm wind, and pina colada's !
Didn't think I was actually going to make it saying that I have never flown before...I had this dreaded feeling that I was going to die! Everyone laughed at me...but I was scared to the core! So anyway...we go to the airport and get on the plane...that only holds like 30 people and we start moving on the runway. All I could think about is how horrible it was that my son was going to be without a Mommy (forget Daddy...I was just concentrating on me!) So I start singing "You are my Sunshine" which is me and my son's favorite song we sing together. So I am just quietly humming it to myself as I am quietly crying. Then the engines get louder...and so does my singing and crying. By the time we are lifting up into the air I am sobbing loudly and almost screaming the song. Everyone is staring...but I don't care...I was gonna die! Then my husband says, "Look out the window!" I look to see a beautiful sight...it was dark out (4:45 am) and all you could see was the twinkling lights of houses, buildings, roads, and cars. It looked like Christmas lights! My fear was immediately gone and I was fine from that moment on.
After a layover in Charleston, NC...we finally made it to Jamacia around 5 pm. We were exhausted but so glad to finally be there. It was so beautiful and everything was great. I could write you every detail of my trip...but it would take forever. So we will just leave it at that we had a REALLY great time and we hated to leave. But one thing is for sure we will definitely be going back! But not only was this trip great for reconnecting with my husband...but it was also a chance to see how very blessed we are here in the United States. We take so many things for granted that seem so petty...but there...it is huge. Shelter, food, and clothing...we seen some who barely had that. And to be such a beautiful place...it is sad to see those kinds of living conditions. So that was something that really will stick with me. The next time my electric bill is $1 higher...I will be thankful I have the money to have it. The next time my car seems to guzzle another tank of gas....at least I have transportation. So we are all blessed...although we seem to take so many things for granted.

Finally back from computer death

Valentine's Day

So today is the day of love and when all husbands and boyfriends scramble to make this one day so romantic that it will carry them throughout the rest of the year! Hehehe! Well...I must say...my hubby did NOT disappoint!

For those who don't know...we have been out house hunting. We have been living with my mother-in-law, Martha, helping her since the passing away of her husband, Bill. She has her finances in order and can make it on her own...although we have been talking about her moving with us. So anyways, we have been looking EVERYWHERE! Seriously...we have been in about 50 homes and hadn't found the "ONE"....until now. Well, actually we had seen this house before but it was priced out of our range by about 10K. But they ended up dropping the price into our price range. We visited the home several times. It is a new construction Craftsman style home with a 1/2 acre flat lot. (Hard to find in Knoxville)

So back to Valentine's day. It started like any other day...my husband was at work and I was hanging with my son and mother-in-law and working. So my husband had made reservations for dinner, so I started getting ready. My husband gets home and my mother-in-law just disappears...VANISHES! Then she just pops back in about 10 minutes later! Said she had a quick errand. Totally baffled and confused...we leave my mother-in-law and son to go to dinner. We are headed toward the interstate, when Robby makes the turn that goes to the house we like...he says he just wanted to see it again. We pull up to this....

Me being dense like I am...says..."What is that sign doing on the for sale sign on that house?" Then it dawns on me and I look at Robby. He of course is crying and smiling at the same time and said, " I told you I would buy you a house!" OMG! Yep...he signed a contract on the house! Who the heck gets a HOUSE for Valentine's Day??? MEEEEEEEE!!!!! :-)

So begins a new chapter in our life! Whoo HOO! Can't wait!
BTW...his Valentine's present wasn't HALF as awesome as this...he got tickets to see George Straight! :-) And you wondering how the sign got there? My mother-in-law...when she vanished! Sneeky!

Bill

Today would have been my father-in-law's birthday. For those who do not know...he passed away this past August. He was a very unique person who although seemed hard and rough...was a huge teddy bear inside. He lived and breathed for my son, Austin, who was the only grandson of Bill's. That was his life. We were living in South Carolina at the time and he and my mother-in-law, Martha, come up to bring my son a swingset. Bill had bought it at a yard sale. It was beat up and rusted...but he hand sanded each piece and painted it to give to my son. We put most of it up and then my son and I went to Myrtle Beach with Bill and Martha. My husband, their son, couldn't go because of work. Never thought that would be the last time with him. He got sick on the last night of the trip and all the way home. I thought he had a stomach bug. But it ended up being a intestinal blockage due to his over-sized hernia. He had surgery and thought he would be fine. However after 62 days in ICU and dealing with kidney failure and multiple infections including MRSA...his fight ended. We are now heading into 8 months without him and the classic saying that time heals all wounds...is just not true. Everyday there is something that reminds you of the sting of reality. His chair in the garage, his metals from service, resemblances in my husbands face, tears from Martha's broken heart, and the sad heart wrenching voice of my 4 year old saying, "I miss my Papaw." I personally can't handle it. I try to not think about it because when I do...I loose it. Death is very hard for me and with what happened with Bill and then my beloved Aunt Penina passing away right before Christmas...it is almost unbearable.
But I know that they are no longer in pain, and those who knew Bill....he suffered a lot in pain. I am blessed that I got to meet Bill and be apart of his family. I will forever be thankful to him for the greatest gift in my life...my husband and his only son, Robby.
Bill I didn't always see eye to eye...I think because we were so much alike. :-) But we loved each other and our last beach trip was wonderful and I would never trade it for the world. Those memories are a treasured part of my heart.

So happy birthday Bill. I love you and miss you terribly. :-(

Wizard of OZ update

I heard from a lot of you that you were excited about seeing my custom made collection of the Wizard of OZ. Unfortunately, contact with the client cannot be made. So the sculptures will be put on hold. Now whether or not the client decides to respond, I will do the entire set...just not now. I have the Wicked Witch almost complete. But I do have other clients waiting on their orders, and so I must move on. But in between I will try to finish the witch. When she is finished I will post on here and if there has been no response from client...then the sculpture will be offered for sale. So keep checking back!

I am now working on two orders to get done in two days...thank goodness they are small! I have two custom dog ornaments to make and a small hummingbird that will be used on a photo album.

So as usual....busy as a bee! :-)

Okay...so not feeling any better...this head cold is totally kicking my butt! And still bummed out....but...you have to put your big girl panties on and go on...ya know? Life goes on! :-)

So I am back to work.

My next order is for sculptures from the Wizard of Oz. I have never done this kind of sculptures and to be honest...I am quite scared! :-) hehe! But I am looking forward to the challenge. There are going to be 11 sculpture in this OOAK original series. Here is what I will be sculpting:

Bummed out

Okay...so most of you that know me...know that I am a very upbeat and positive person. Always out to make people smile often at the expense of my own stupidity. :-)
But today is not one of those days. I want feeling well when I got up this morning...I got Austin's cold her has had for a week. I had a OBGYN appointment to get some test results back and to get an ultrasound to confirm a diagnosis. I started to cancel the appointment because I felt so bad....but I made myself go on. So I had the ultrasound and then I spoke with the doc about what was going on. With the ultrasound they have confirmed that I do have PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) which has caused me a lot of problems, I am insulin resistant, and that getting pregnant naturally isn't going to be an option. I will need to have medical intervention.
So that was a buzz kill on my positive attitude for the day. It is very disheartening. So they put me on some meds and I go back in 3 months to see if anything has changed. I am getting his help on losing the weight while dealing with the PCOS...and he is hoping that the insulin thing and everything else will get better as I get my weight down. Since starting my new life plan (not diet) with him at the end of November...I have lost 16 lbs. I still have 34 lbs. left to go...but I am slowly getting there. He is wanting me to have that weight gone by the time I come back....so keep your fingers crossed!
But it is hard. I cried(which I rarely do!) And I am just down...depressed some if you will. So that is effecting my drive to sculpt. So I think I will just take the day off and see what tomorrow brings. But keep me in your prayers...I could definitely use the strength! Thanks!

Four dog sculpt FINISHED!

Okay...so I got the dogs painted! I am very happy with the finished product of this sculpt. This was a larger sculpt due to the amount of dogs....but I think that it turned out REALLY well! So thank you Peggy for your order! I know your dogs mean a lot to you and I am very humbled that you chose me to attempt to capture your "babies" in a sculpture. So thank you and I hope that you enjoy them!

New Project!

Well, I am on to my next project! This custom order is for a 5 dog sculpture of the client's dogs. Never did this many dogs together....but so far...it seems to look pretty good! Hope it paints well! :-) We shall see!

Things have become increasingly busy over the past few years and while I've been feeling extremely blessed, I've put off asking for any help. I was being overwhelmed with all the things I was trying to keep up with. And me being the type of person that I am...I just do it all myself so that I don't impose on anyone.

Until now!

I now have an Assistant! Yep! You read that right! Arlissa broke down and is FINALLY going to let someone help her! :-)

Her name is Martha. She is a lovely woman who is not only smart...but someone who is going to help get me and my business more orgainized and running better to better serve my growing list of customers. She is also my mother-in-law. :-) I know what some of you are saying....."WWWHHHHAAATTT?" But it is true. She and I have created a very strong bond and after talking for some time about it and throwing the idea around...I thought it would be a good idea for the both of us. One for me, because I could really benefit from some help. Secondly...it helps her and gives her something to do (and make some money!) :-)
So she will be doing a lot of the paperwork and computer work for me that I havent had time to get around to. So I am super excited and I hope that you'll are too!

I know that she will be received well by all my customers and fans....because that is the type of people that you are! I have the best customers and fans in the world!

So thank you so very much! :-)

Hawk Finished

Finally I got my hawk sculpture done! Complete with the base and the added Hardin Valley Hawks Logo! I am very proud of this piece.This is one of my best pieces and I cant wait to make more! I may even do a Native American series soon! (hint hint!) :-)

But for now...I am off to start my next order!

Oh how time flies! My little vacation is finally over. I have got to get back to work. I am ready to hit the ground running! And so I have! I had to start with a hawk head for my husband's boss who is having it made for his son. Now his son goes to Hardin Valley High and plays football. Loves his school...and they are the hawks. SOOOO...that is why I am making a hawk. So this is my first one and I am really excited. I started the head and within 30 minutes the basic shape is ready....

Then comes shaping the eye and adding a little more details

Now with a little bit of structural details finished....now it needs to have a bust....

Now I am happy with the look of it...now comes the fun part...the feathers.These are placed one by one starting from the bottom going up. I basically sit and pinch off different sized pieces of clay, roll them in my fingers to make a tear shape, flatten completely, then place it on the sculpture. It takes a LONG time!

So that is where I am at right now.I am really in the sculpting mood! So hopefully I will get him finished and baked tonight and ready to paint tomorrow! We shall see!

Okay...so I am not suppose to be working...I know...I know. But my little one is taking a nap and so this is free time, RIGHT? hehee!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their support through this trying year. It has been rough...but how would you appreciate a sunny day if you never had the storms? We should all try to take everyday as it comes...one by one and be thankful for each one. Because at a moments notice...it can all be taken away.

I am really looking forward to the new year and what's in store! Not sure what is in front of me...but I am ready!

The website has been updated, with links to keep up with me and a new feature...the order sheet. There you can see the status of your order that you place with me. So be sure to check it out. I also have all the dates for my segments on "Your Carolina" for the rest of the year....so set those DVR's and VCR's! Well needed break!

WOW! This Christmas rush was CRAZY! Between being sick and dealing with a death in the family...it was hard to stay focused. But I did it and got them all out and in time! Thanks to all of you who had placed orderd with me. Your patience was GREATLY appreciated!

But now I am on a well deserved break. I promised my little boy that I would take off work for an ENTIRE week! He is so excited to have Mommy not work! So I will be returning to "work" on January 4th. I plan on hitting the ground running!

But if you want to place orders or get a hold of me...I will still be responding to emails and orders.

Sad news

Well, today is the first day of winter and I definitely feel that cold air. It is not necessarily cold outside...just cold in life right now. This holiday season was hard enough as I have lost an uncle earlier this year, an aunt just about a month ago, my father-in-law about 3 months ago....and today we buried another one. My aunt Penina Arlissa Owenby. In case you haven't figured it out...I was her name sake. I was named after two aunts...her and my Aunt Sue...which Sue is my middle name.
Her heart stopped beating and she stopped breathing....for how long...no one really knows. But her neighbor was there when it happened and called 911. They did revive her...but she had severe brain damage...and she was basically gone. The doctor recommended that we give 24 hours to see if there was any improvements...but there were none. The was having seizues basically every second...non stop and they had her maxed on the meds to make it stop. The only thing keeping her alive was the ventilator (life support) and so on Friday, December 18th....at 10:30 a.m....we took her off and let her go. She was not alone as I and her caregiver who was also her sister, Kathy...held her hand as she passed from this life to the next. She also had her other sister Jean, grandson Adam, niece Sonya, and niece Carol. And today...we laid her to rest. What a hard time life seems to be sometimes. We don't understand....why things happen the way they do...and it makes it hard.
That is why we should all take everyday as it is....a blessing. We are all blessed to have one more day to spend with our love ones. So slow down....and enjoy everyday as it would be your last or your loved ones.

So rest in peace my dear Aunt Pina! I love you and miss you terribly. With all my love....Butter. :-(

WOW! I can't believe how busy I am! And unfortunately I am having to stop taking orders for Christmas. I have over 23 orders to get done and out before Christmas! And right now...I am still feeling a little under the weather...so I pray I get over it soon!

Hello! Well, I have finally joined the rest of the world....I have a blog. Okay...so I just have to ask....does anyone else think that "blog" is a funny word? Makes me giggle when I say it...BLOG! Hehe! So anyways...I was helping one of my friends figure out some stuff on her blog when I decided that this would be a great way to stay in touch with everyone regarding my work...and therefore...here I am! So I will try to update at least once a week...but no promises! I was going to say everyday...but I would totally fail at that one! :-) And I would love to hear from you so feel free to add any comments...or just say hi!

I will post up new projects that I am working on and any new items that are up for purchase. As well as any craft shows or promotions that I will be doing.
